About Our History

On July 21, 2022, based on the proposal of the Academic Council of Advisors of Medcenter and the decision of the founding partners – agreement of foundation, in accordance with the current legislation, the teaching university – “Avicenna – Batumi Medical University” LLC was founded. Implementation of educational programs in the direction of medicine was defined as the main activity.

Avicenna – Batumi Medical University, based on the use of modern and innovative methods of teaching/learning and research according to Western standards, internationalization, development of international relations, and creation and sharing of knowledge, aims to make the motto “learning for life” a reality and establish itself as a strong academic platform, to get high-quality education in medicine in the region.  The University, the founding organizations, based on its activities and the history of personnel experienced in the educational and scientific-research field, include all areas of health care – from prevention to rehabilitation, which provides an opportunity to prepare professional staff who respond to the challenges of the competitive western medical field. This will have a positive impact on the development of the health field of the region, as well as the quality of medical education itself.

About Batumi

Batumi is the capital city of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara and is the second-largest city in Georgia (according to the population size). It presents an eclectic mix of architecture, ranging from charming 19th-century classical edifices to ultra-modern skyscrapers housing hotels and casinos. Located on the coast of the Black Sea, it is lined with palm trees and surrounded by mountains. Batumi has always been distinguished by a favourable natural and strategic location.

 Batumi is characterized by a seacoast humid subtropical climate. The average annual temperature is 14.5°C. The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is 7.1°C, and in August, the warmest month, 23.2°C. The annual precipitation is 2,560 mm. Showers are frequent. It rarely snows but when it does, the snow melts easily. The average annual temperature of the sea is 16.7°C at the shore.

Much of Batumi’s economy revolves around tourism but the city is also an important seaport and includes industries like shipbuilding, food processing, and light manufacturing.
